An allergy to housecleaning
June 29, 2009
I think I’ve developed a new allergy related to housecleaning. For the past few weeks it’s all I can do to drag myself around and clean the bathrooms and I don’t think I’ve touched a mop for weeks. Maybe my standards in the summer lessen dramatically. Maybe all that time spent outside keeps the house chores out of sight and out of mind. Or maybe it’s just that I use the time I would be cleaning to take the kids to the pool instead.
And here’s the weird thing – I don’t even care. Normally, I’m a bit of a stickler for keeping things clean. I often say that my house may be messy but it’s rarely dirty. And I’m about the most organized person you’ll meet. I make lists for everything. I designate days of the week for certain cleaning – it’s true: Monday – mopping; Tuesday – pick up & vacuum downstairs; Wednesday – pick up & vacuum upstairs etc. Each type of laundry has it’s own day too. (can you say anal?!?) And here I am surrounded by a floor with suspiciously sticky spots on it and I don’t care – even though it’s Monday.
I’ve taken the kids swimming every day for the past 5 days – maybe if I can just keep everyone in the house today I’ll actually get some cleaning done. This allergy of mine is going to overwhelm the house at some point. And I’ve got company coming this week… sigh…
