In the last week of summer I try to give the kids a couple of fun adventures. The kinds of adventures that are day trips and don’t necessarily require a lot of planning. The kinds of adventures that are just right for soaking up the last days of summer.
Well, we are in the last week of summer in these parts so our last blast adventures have started in earnest. This week I took the kids on a whole new adventure: canoeing. A friend told me about a place not far away where we could rent canoes. It was on a lake which seemed like a good first canoeing spot for my gang – no current to deal with. So away we went!
It was just for an hour but no one complained, no one fell in and everyone had a blast. The kids want to know if we can go on a longer canoe trip this fall or next summer. I’ve already scoped out a perfect adventure for that trip too.
Up next in our last blast of summer? We’re heading to my favorite city on the Lake to check out some Navy ships – it’s Navy week in Chicago and practice day for the Air Show. Wahoo!
