Quotes to live by

I like quotes. They can be inspirational or funny. Well-phrased quotes make me happy. Here are a few of my favorites:

The truly happy person is one who enjoys the scenery on a detour. ~Sir James Jeans
I’ve shared that one before. To me it is a reminder that there is joy even when things don’t go my way. This is a good reminder for a control freak.

One should always be a little improbable. ~Oscar Wilde
I like the possibility that is behind this quote. I often like the idea of spontaneity more than spontaneity itself so this is a good reminder to stop planning everything.

Besides the art of getting things done, there is a nobler art of leaving things undone. ~Lin Yutang
I read this in a magazine and love it. Not because I’m looking for excuses to do things half-assed, but because I think there’s real truth in this statement. It’s not good to always be doing, doing, doing.

Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. ~Hebrews 12:1
This is part of the prayer that I say during every big race. This is also the phrase I turn to when I’m in the midst of a day that feels like a marathon. It helps me reset my determination and know that the task before me can indeed be handled.

AGoodTraveller
I love this quote because it reminds me to look for everyday blessings and not let a day go by without appreciating what its journey brought me. Even days filled with laundry.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. ~Dr. Seuss
This is a lesson in life. This and the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people. It’s so easy to get dragged down in nonsense or feel like you have to pretend to be something you’re not. This isn’t an excuse to be rude, it’s a reminder to stay true to our life’s path.

This post reminds me that I should read more philosophy. I’m going to stop now before this post turns all Pinterest-y. Got any good quotes to share with me?

  1. One of my current favorite quotes (not sure who to attribute it too) is one that I sent my mom after she found out she was going to have to have more chemo:
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Except for bears, bears will kill you.”
    🙂

  2. Here is a quote that I really enjoy…
    “We lived in the attic,
    Christopher, Cory, Carrie, and me,
Now there are only three.” from “Flowers in the Attic” by VC Andrews.
